Who Set the Little Fires Everywhere?

downloadRemember, Mia had said: Sometimes you need to scorch everything to the ground and start over. After the burning the soil is richer, and new things can grow. People are like that, too. They start over. They find a way.

READ. ME. What a beautiful, haunting, eye-opening, depths of the soul with all the magical layers and intricate woven tapestry of a story. Celeste Ng surprised me to the depths of my heart with this story of family, race, societal structures, inequity, and the domino impact of human choice.

It bothers you, doesn’t it? I think you can’t imagine. Why anyone would choose a different life from the one you’ve got. Why anyone might want something other than a big house with a big lawn, a fancy car, a job in an office. Why anyone would choose anything different than what you’d choose. It terrifies you. That you missed out on something. That you gave up something you didn’t know you wanted.

Aptly name, Little Fires Everywhere can potentially mean something different to everyone. Is it the bursts of action throughout the narrative? Or the tiny moments of heat as stories and truths are revealed? Or maybe perhaps the flames to shed light on the facets of society, family, and human nature? To me though, it was the little fires sparked in my thoughts, my soul, my heart as this incredible story made me feel, made me wonder, and created emotional depth that is just utterly refreshing coming from a story like this one. One last thought. Be kind. Really, we are humans together. It’s kind of scary to think how woven our society truly is. So be kind.
